Performance

The most important factor in assessing the performance of a wind turbine is the swept area. Put simply, this is the size of the area which is swept when the rotor blades turn – the bigger the swept area, the more energy generated. The Gaia-Wind 133-11kW wind turbine has a swept area of 133m², compared with the leading competitors swept area which is less than half this figure. This means that the Gaia-Wind turbine outperforms its nearest rival by about 20% in terms of energy generated. Even more impressively, in recent tests conducted by the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Gaia-Wind 133-11kW wind turbine outperformed its nearest competitor by a factor of more than 2 to 1.

The Gaia-Wind 133-11kW turbine is also supplied on an 18m tower, which is 3 metres higher than our main competitors. This added height increases energy captured by around 10%.

Gaia turbines are also among the quietest available, a direct result of their carefully designed ability to rotate at a low and constant speed. They also feature a slim design nacelle and are mounted with reflection-free, light grey blades, specifically designed to blend into the sky and clouds.

As well as significantly reducing your electricity consumption and bills, the Gaia-Wind 133-11kW wind turbine can be connected to the electricity grid allowing users to sell surplus electricity back to the electricity provider supplying you with mains power.

Put all of these two advantages together and you can begin to understand what we mean when we say a Gaia Wind turbine ‘generates better value’.
